Should You Clean Sharp Knives In A Dishwasher

Hi everyone, Tim here from Chasing Pristine with another tip while home cleaning

No, you should never clean sharp knives in a dishwasher. The heat and detergents used in a dishwasher may cause damage to the blade of the knife, which can make it brittle and more prone to breaking. Additionally, items in the dishwasher can move around during the cycle, which could cause the blade of a sharp knife to come into contact with other items and potentially cause injury. It is best to hand wash sharp knives with gentle detergent and water.

To hand wash sharp knives, start by rinsing the knife off with warm water to remove any food particles. Once the knife is rinsed, use a gentle dish soap and a soft sponge or cloth to remove any remaining dirt or oils. When finished, rinse the knife thoroughly and dry it with a clean cloth.

Once the knife is fully clean and dried, it is important to store it properly for maximum safety. Sharp knives should never be stored in a drawer, as there is a risk of the blade coming into contact with other items and causing injury. Instead, it is best to store sharp knives in a knife block, either in the kitchen or on a wall-mounted knife rack.

We hope this has helped
